MeChat is looking for Interactive Story Writers for long-term cooperation. MeChat is a game in the interactive story genre that offers dozens of unique romance stories. We value immersive writing, consistent and engaging plot lines, and an exciting flow of relationship development that makes our players feel loved. We are looking for driven and dedicated people with a strong vocabulary and passion for writing romance.

We are looking for writers who can:

  • Follow the given story plot and relationship dynamic. Expanding on some story points or changing small interactions is allowed, but fulfilling the planned idea is mandatory.
  • Create chemistry and flirty banter between characters based on planned relationship dynamics and story context without adding sexual themes when they’re not planned.
  • Write a compelling and engaging story within a limited word count. An average story is 100k words. Writers work on stories in parts of 10-20k words, usually switching between stories after completing one part.
  • Use at least 4 of the following tropes: slow burn, enemies to lovers, dark romance, mafia romance, age gap, fantasy romance, romcom, one night, one bed, bdsm, furries, fake dating/marriage & forced marriage.
  • Analyze the feedback from the team and adapt to the guidelines we provide.


Responsibilities:

  • Develop interactive romance stories that capture the audience's attention and keep them engaged throughout the entire experience.
  • Write a synopsis of the story based on the given story brief (concept).
  • Write and revise scripts based on feedback from the team and audience testing.
  • Work within the established style guidelines to ensure consistency across all interactive stories.
  • Collaborate with the team to ensure that the story is aligned with the overall project vision and goals.
  • Stay current on trends and best practices in interactive story writing, and apply them to our projects.
  • Meet project deadlines. Managing multiple projects simultaneously would be a plus.

Requirements:

  • Fluent or Native English.
  • Proven experience as a writer, with a focus on interactive stories and/or romance. Fanfiction writers are welcome.
  • Excellent storytelling skills, with the ability to create compelling characters, settings, and relationship dynamics.
  • Knowledge of popular romantic tropes and ability to execute them is a must.
  • Ability to develop inclusive and diverse characters and relationships in interactive story scripts.
  • Ability to use given story information and expand it to create an immersive game experience.
  • Ability to write according to a given formatting example and submit stories in Google sheets (preferably) or Excel.
  • Strong understanding of story structure, pacing, dialogue, story branching.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team of game designers.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to give and receive feedback effectively.
  • Detail-oriented, with strong organizational and time-management skills.

It would be great if a candidate

  • Has experience with writing interactive stories.
  • Has experience with writing romance.

The selection process

All selected candidates should write a test chapter. This assignment is paid. It is designed to test the writer’s storytelling skills in the framework of MeChat interactive stories. You will be given a story brief, a story example, and writing instructions before writing a test chapter.
